Recipe for my special Strawberry Banana ‘Surprise’ Smoothie:

1. 2 ripened bananas (peels removed)

2. 2 cups organic strawberries (hulls removed)

3. 1 ripened, medium-sized avocado (skin and pit removed)

4. 2 cups unsweetened almond milk

5. 2 TBSP agave nectar (optional)

6. ice cubes

Place all of the above ingredients into your blender of choice (soft stuff first, hard stuff last), and blend on high for about 2 minutes.

****The surprise in this smoothie is…….you guessed it! It’s the avocado! Most people will use some type of yogurt to give the smoothie a creamy texture but I prefer to use a ripened avocado instead. It’s a healthier option and it leaves the smoothie with a creamy texture that you just wouldn’t believe! The taste is INCREDIBLE! Enjoy!

I LOVE this chart! This is so great!

This concept is so crucial because one can work out faithfully and undo it all, just by what one eats. Clean eating is a key component to weight loss and maintenance.

Coca-Cola released an ad today warning that their products may be hazardous to your health.

In 1964, the Surgeon General released a report saying that smoking is bad for you. This was when 50% of adults smoked. Today, in NYC, 11% of New Yorkers smoke. A seventy-eight percent decrease in 48 years.

The obesity conversation is just getting started in America. And brands have learned a bit more about what happens to them when they don’t take action themselves to curb the roles they play in adverse health effects of their products. I have faith that in 50 years, overweight and obesity will decrease significantly in America.

Even though Coca-Cola has played a significant role in obesity in the world, they aren’t acting completely recklessly. They’re making steps, albeit baby steps, but they are developing a conscience. And that, my friends, is the first step in acknowledging a problem.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how we as a culture deal with obesity over the next 50 years. The point is, have patience and acknowledge and support all the baby steps we see happening around us in various corners of our culture. This is a start.

Coming Together (by CocaColaCo)

This is definitely a start in the right direction.

I don’t understand why asking people to eat a well-balanced vegetarian diet is considered drastic, while it is medically conservative to cut people open and put them on cholesterol lowering drugs for the rest of their lives.

Another great veganism infographic that definitely covers some bases! Share with pride.

Just another shameless plug for a plant-based diet….:-)

Emily Whitehead the girl whose cancer was ‘cured’ by HIV virus.

seven-year-old girl has become the first child leukaemia patient to be successfully treated by doctors using a disabled form of the virus that causes Aids to reprogramme the immune system.

When chemotherapy failed to work for Emily Whitehead, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, she underwent a new experimental treatment at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

It involved tricking her immune system into fighting the cancer cells.

Dr Stephan Grupp, Director of the Centre for Childhood Cancer Research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, told CBS: “We’ve treated the first couple of patients and we’ve been blown away by the results”.

They’ve been very exciting.

“We collect cells of the immune system from a patient, so we use the patient’s own cells. We put in a new gene in those cells that makes the cells go after cancer cells and then we put those cells back in the patient.”

It’s amazing how much we have accomplished in recent years in medical research.

Absolutely amazing!!!

It is more important to know what sort of patient has a disease rather than what sort of disease a patient has.
